New construction homes are beautiful - but the ground around them is often a different story. Bare dirt, uneven grades, and nothing holding the soil in place against rain and erosion. That's exactly what we were working with on this job. The foundation perimeter needed material brought in, graded out, and set up right before any grass could take hold.
We brought in 25 yards of sand dirt mix and spread it along the home's foundation. The goal was two things - raise and strengthen the grade around the base of the house, and give the customer a solid seedbed ready for buffalo grass. Buffalo grass is tough, low-maintenance, and perfect for rural Texas properties. But it only works if the ground beneath it is properly prepared first.
Grading isn't just moving dirt around. You have to account for drainage, slope, and how the material settles against the foundation. Get that wrong and you end up with water sitting against the house or seed washing away with the first hard rain. We take that seriously on every job, whether it's a small patch or a full perimeter like this one.
Once the material was graded and smoothed out, the customer was set to go - seed down, water it in, and let buffalo grass do what it does best. That grass will spread and fill in, locking the soil in place and giving the property a clean, finished look that actually holds up long-term. It's one of those jobs where the prep work is everything.
This is what landscaping looks like on rural properties. It's not always about plants and mulch beds. Sometimes it's about doing the foundational work - literally - so everything else can succeed. We handle all of it, from grading and soil work to ongoing lawn care once the grass is established.
